AFSP's Financial Information


The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization funding research and education programs needed to prevent suicide, and assisting family members after this tragedy. AFSP offers opportunities for survivors to become involved in prevention and advocacy. By walking in the Out of the Darkness Overnight you will be helping to support the following:

  • Research to improve the understanding of factors that contribute to suicide;
  • Suicide prevention of college campuses through the dissemination of an educational film;
  • National Survivors of Suicide Day conferences;
  • Development of national centers that will evaluate the effectiveness of suicide prevention treatments;
  • Creation of new survivor support groups;
  • Local suicide prevention programs in the Massachusetts region.

Tax Information
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Your donation is deductible as a charitable contribution as allowed by law. All donors who give an email address will receive a receipt via email. Donations of $250 or more will be acknowledged by mail at the end of each tax quarter. Financial Reporting
The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a self-sustaining event benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The proceeds will be used to fund research and education, promote public awareness and provide programs for survivor treatment. A portion of the contributions will pay for expenses arising from The Out of the Darkness Overnight, an extraordinary opportunity to meet others whose lives have been touched by suicide, reflect and share. While it is difficult to know in advance the costs of the event, contributors can be reassured that AFSP shall maintain the highest degree of fiscal responsibility.
