Welcome to the Personal Fundraising Page of Sunnie Hirschfield

As most of you know I did this walk in 2006 in Chicago and last year in New York City . Well I will be traveling to SEATTLE for this wonderful cause this year. Last years walk was wonderful and was very comforting and healing and I am now more passionate about helping than I was. I am going to be walking in memory of John who took his life 8 years ago this April. I am walking to prevent others from ending up like John and so hopefully I can save at least one person from having to tell their little sister her best friend killed himself and save themselves from the guilt and questions that follow. I am walking because every SIXTEEN minutes in the US someone dies by suicide, and every 17 minutes many people are left behind trying to piece things together and figure out what they did wrong. Every SINGLE minute in the US someone tries to take their own life. That means on your 20 minute car ride to work 20 people attempted to kill themselves and 1 person actually died. In one year an estimated 30,000 people will die by suicide...that is far too many. And it's not just the weird kids at school or drug addicts doing it, it's moms, dads, grandparents, siblings, firefighters, police officers, teachers, our soldiers returning from war, doctors, nurses I could go on- it could be anyone- even someone you love. I am walking this year and I am traveling 1995 miles for this walk to bring awareness and light to something people keep in the dark and don't like to talk about. By doing this I hope to save lives. By doing this I know I will, I will also be helping others deal with the pain and guilt that comes with when a loved one takes their own life- it's a pain you don't understand until it happens to you- I pray it never does. I will also be walking in memory of Carlos Garcia and Joel Brewster.
who ended their lives and left behind family and friends wondering why, and Greg Braun and SSG Ashley Kennedy who survived Iraq but couldn't survive the aftermath. If you have any questions please email me sunxnie@yahoo.com
For John:
You may not think the world needed you, but it did. For you were unique: like no one that has ever been before or will come after. No one can speak with your voice; say your piece; smile your smile; or shine your light. No one can take your place for it was yours alone to fill. Because you are not here to shine your light, who knows how many travelers will lose their way as they try to pass by your empty place in the darkness<
