Again this year, I'll be taking part in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Overnight Walk . I and thousands of other walkers are attempting to raise funds and awareness for the prevention and understanding of suicide.

I am walking again because my personal journey continues. My work with RAINBOWS (www.rainbows.org), an international non-profit organization devoted to guiding kids thru the grief of life's storms, the suicide of a neighbor and the sadness in my small hometown as they mourn 3 lives lost to suicide in the last 15 months have only served to reinforce the importance of educating the public and reducing the stigma associated with depression and securing mental wellness.

Without funding for research, prevention and support- Suicide remains a word that is whispered. Those that fight the dark thoughts are left alone- not only with the pain, but with the loneliness of being unable to reach out for help, because when they do, they are often ostracized by misunderstanding....sometimes by those they trusted most.
