Welcome to the Personal Fundraising Page of June Shieh

Please support me as I take an amazing journey. The Out of the Darkness Overnight Experience is a 20-mile walk over the course of one night. Net proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, funding research, education, and awareness programs – both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide.

Though suicide is a diffiicult subject, I want others to know how it has affected people like me, to prevent such tragedy in their lives, and to give them hope.

Many years ago, I survived a darker period of my life, when my mother died of suicide. To think that her death was preventable only added to the devastation of our surviving family. My mother was selfless, loving, intelligent, gentle, and a talented artist. My family has since struggled to find ways to live with hope and to forgive ourselves for her death.

I turned to the support of my brother Ted, many good friends, and my extended family, who have taught me to look forward to good things. I have learned to live a healthier, happier life, even with a sense of humor. I am now more at peace with myself, knowing that my mother would have wanted us to find happiness.

I now have so much appreciation for my life today, and I want others who are affected by suicide to have that as well. So I am walking in the loving memory of my parents, Nora and Frank Shieh.

If you feel depressed or troubled, please know that it is not just okay to seek help, that you have to get help. With help, life can get better.

Thanks for reading this, for giving me and others hope, and for your generosity.

Sincerely,
June Shieh
