Suicide. Already this year I have been personally touched by this illness more than once. Jason died nealy 9 years ago. It feels like today. Rick died nearly 7 years ago. It feels like an hour. In these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to raise awareness for suicide education and prevention. It is more important than ever that we recognize the effects this war is having on our heroes, our men and women of the military. It is more important than ever that people understand that mental illness is just that. It is an ILLNESS. No one asks to be sick. The stigma of seeking help for a mental illness needs to go away. I take anti depressant and anti anxiety drugs every day. There's a real possibility that I always will. No one should be looked down on because they ask for help for their hurting head, their hurting soul, just as no one should be looked down on for asking for help for a broken arm. The stigma has to go away. We have to start talking about it. I don't want another parent to live my life. I don't want another friend to live my life. I don't want anyone else to wonder what they could have said differently. I don't want anyone else to wonder what they could have done differently. I don't want anyone else to ask WHY? Help me, please. You may just be saving the life of someone you love. |
