Welcome to the Personal Fundraising Page of Kate Traxler

Please support me as I take an amazing journey. The Out of the Darkness Overnight Experience is a 20-mile walk over the course of one night. Net proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, funding research, education, and awareness programs – both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide.

Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Kate and I have decided to take this opportunity to walk, fundraise, and spread awareness therefore helping as much as I can to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness as well as be a positive example for others.

A little bit about myself. I am 20-years-old and I used to hate myself. Because of that hate, I used to hurt myself too. But that hate was caused from mental illness and that hurt has lead to growth and healing. I love myself. I still struggle with living life in as healthy a way as I can, but I consider myself a survivor. Though there are no "should"s in life, the closest thing to a "should" that I have learned is that I am the most important person in my life, and that is how it should be.

Not only do I walk for myself, but I also walk for numerous loved ones in addition to everyone out there who has had their life impacted by suicide and mental illness in general. I walk for you. Because I feel that the most helpful thing for everyone, not just those whose lives are touched by suicide, is a society that is open, accepting, and helpful, especially the times when love is needed the most.

Two random tidbits:

Tidbit One: I chose the picture I did because it is my favorite picture from my 19th birthday party (theme: Golden Fairy Tale Princess) which was the time in my life I have felt the most alive and happy in my own skin. It was also around a time when I had been in a partial hospitalization program, and I know it was because of that program that I am able to be the strong person I am today.

Tidbit Two: I have an ambigram tattoo on my left wrist; it says hope upside down and right-side up. I believe that "While I breathe I hope, and hope dies last."
