Delayed Donation Information

You have until the day of the Overnight Walk to meet your fundraising minimum! If you are shy of your minimum, you can fill out the Delayed Donation form while checking in to the . By completing this form, you agree to make up the difference between what you have raised and the fundraising minimum. The individual fundraising minimums are $1,000 for Walkers and $700 for student and military Walkers.

The Delayed Donation form allows you four additional weeks after the event to continue fundraising. At the end of the four week window, if you still haven’t reached your fundraising minimum, we will contact you to confirm your self-pledge plan. This plan can extend up to four months (after the initial four week window) - during which time your fundraising page will remain active. If you reach your fundraising minimum during this time, simply contact us and we will destroy the delayed donation form.

Looking for ideas to continue fundraising? Follow the below plan and reach your minimum after you completed the Delayed Donation form:

Fundraising Plan

Weeks After the Walk

Use These Steps to Reach Your Fundraising Minimum

1 Week Out
  • Self-Pledge $25 to your own account anonymously.
  • Reach out to at least 10 family members to donate.
  • Post to your social networks that you have participated in the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk. Share photos you've taken during the event. Let everyone know that you need to reach $1,000 in 4 weeks, and the only way you can do it is with your friends’ help. Post a status update about the walk 3 times a week until the end of the Delayed Donation window.
2 Weeks Out
  • Reach out to your co-workers to sponsor you for the miles you walked and see if your company offers gift matching or check here. If your company does gift matching, reach out to your HR department to see what is required. If it’s a form, fill out as much of it as possible so it’s easier on the donor to complete.
  • Talk to your neighbors about the Overnight Walk and tell them why you are walking. Encourage them to support you by making a donation to your page.
  • Ask local businesses if they are willing to donate to you. If they donate items and services instead of cash, turn those into raffle or auction items to give away to donors over the next few weeks.
3 Weeks Out
  • Post a daily countdown on your social networks letting people know how many days you have left to make your goal and how much money you still need to raise – thank donors individually as you receive donations.
  • Send out an e-mail update letting potential donors know how far you are from your fundraising minimum and that you need their support.
  • Follow up this e-mail with a phone call.
4 Weeks Out
  • Double up social media posts, including posts with a fact about suicide prevention. Post one in the morning and one at night.
  • Reflect on how important the Overnight Walk experience was to you & include more photos from the walk.
  • Plan a donation dinner and turn a social occasion into a fundraising opportunity. Invite your friends and talk to them about the Overnight. Set out a donation jar (decorated with photos from the walk), have your victory T-shirt on display and ask people to make a contribution.
