We are saddened to share the loss of our beloved Overnight Walk North Star and Friend, Dennis Tackett

Dennis joined AFSP and The Overnight in 2006 after losing his son Jeff to suicide - putting his grief and heartache into action and passion. Dennis participated in 22 Overnight Walks, with his wife, Chris,  and had a total fundraising impact of almost $225,000. Dennis was a member of AFSP's National Board, Chair of the Loss and Healing Council, a founding member of the AFSP National Capital Area Chapter, and board member of the AFSP North Carolina Chapter. We cannot begin to describe the impact Dennis had on AFSP, the Overnight Walk, and all of our community members.

Dennis was an advocate, survivor, empath, and friend. He met everyone, and everything, with humor and love. We will miss him greatly.

In honor of Dennis Tackett, we are dedicating this year's 30th Overnight Walk to him.

If you would like to make a donation in Dennis' memory, you can do so here. We also ask that you hug everyone you meet a little tighter.

The Overnight

Route

The Overnight is an experience like no other.

As you walk through the night, you'll feel safe and cared-for in a community where everyone supports each other. It's a place to laugh, to cry, and to heal - to honor the past and embrace a future that your work will change for the better.

Why We Walk

Ceremony SiteEvery year suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined, and yet suicide prevention doesn't get anywhere near the funding given to other leading causes of death. It's up to Walkers like us to make a difference. Together we can change the conversation about mental health and put a stop to this tragic loss of life.
