This year will be my 7th Ovenight Walk. My first was to honor the son of friend, who had ended his own life shortly after his 27th birthday, the victim of undiagnosed depression. He lives on in the collective memory of an online community as "The Night Watchman". Since that time, so many friends have shared their own stories of loss, of struggling with mental illness, and their own attempts. I grieve with them, love them, support them, and am thankful for the ones who are still with us, still fighting, still talking, still living.
This year I am specially honoring and celebrating my friends who have been to the edge, and even stepped over, yet returned, rebounded, and carry on. These people are wonders to me, and enrich my life every day.
I’m fundraising to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Net proceeds will help those affected by suicide and mental health conditions by supporting research, advocacy, survivor resources, education, and awareness programs. AFSP has set a bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by the year 2025, and I'm proud to be part of that mission.
Thank you for your support in a cause I believe in. Together we can save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.
