This year, the Tommy Fuss Team will once again take on Boston, this time for our 13th Overnight walk. The Out of the Darkness Overnight is an 18 mile walk from dusk to dawn. Our fundraising benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, funding research, advocacy, survivor support, education, and awareness programs.
Losing Tommy, my adventurous, sensitive, and smart friend, to suicide changed my life immeasurably. In the years since his death I have learned so much about mental illness and the need for effective research, treatment, and community support. I'm grateful for the AFSP's leadership in preventing suicide, and for the resources they offer to survivors. The Overnight has long been a way for us to gather as friends and family, remember Tommy, and continue to smash the stigma that surrounds mental illness.
At 16, grieving the loss of my dear friend, I had no idea what the future would have in store. At 28, I'm proud that those of us who loved Tommy are still banded together as friends and advocates, helping to ensure that fewer people suffer in silence or feel the pain of suicide loss. In this way, our friendship endures.
I'm walking to support the AFSP's goal of reducing the rate of suicide by 20% by the year 2025. With your donation, we get ever closer to that goal. Thank you for your support!
