Your Donations Fight Suicide
The proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. AFSP uses the funds to:
- Fund Research for Suicide Prevention
- Create and Distribute Education Programs
- Advocate for Public Policy
- Support Those Affected by Suicide
A portion of the contributions will pay for expenses arising from the Out of the Darkness Overnight, an extraordinary opportunity to meet others whose lives have been touched by suicide, reflect and share. While it is difficult to know in advance the costs of the event, contributors can be reassured that AFSP shall maintain the highest degree of fiscal responsibility.
- Your donation is deductible as a charitable contribution as allowed by law.
- All donors who give an email address will receive a receipt via email.
- Donations of $250 or more will be acknowledged by mail at the end of each tax quarter. Please note that all donations are non-refundable and non-transferable.

AFSP makes the most out of every donation.
We keep administrative costs well below the 35% industry standard so we can put more toward research, programs, and advocacy. In spite of our rapid growth, in 2021, AFSP program expense and overhead expense ratios stayed approximately the same as the previous year at 80 and 20 percent of total expenses respectively.
We meet the standards for good governance as set by the Better Business Bureau and The National Health Council, and were awarded four stars on Charity Navigator.
